Very advanced nanoelectronic components: design, engineering, technology and manufacturability

Nanotechnologies and Photonics R&D in the target countries follow the global trend of basic and applied research in new materials, new fabricating and light/visualization technologies. The R&D in these domains is concentrated mostly in the Academia, still in Russia there are initiatives to involve SME and R&D departments of large enterprise into research projects on Nanotechnologies and Photonics.

Nanotechnologies are included into the list of the critical technologies of the Russian Federation. State corporation “RosNano” was established to fund fundamental and applied research in this area. Several leading research centers including Kurchatov Institute were oriented towards research in nanotechnologies.

It is reasonable to launch collaborative action relevant to the entire topic of nanoelectronics. Russia has a critical scientific mass and advanced technological competences in the entire nanoelectronics area:

-   next generation nanoelectronics components and electronics integration;

-   micro- and nano-systems

-   nanodevices, nanomaterials

Distinguished R&D institutions:

- Institute for Design Problems in Microelectronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences

- Institute of Microelectronics Technology and High Purity Materials of the Russian Academy of Sciences

- Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences

- Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

- Institute of Informatics Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences

- National Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute"

“Micro/ Nano-electronics” is an emerging technology that plays a vital role in the development of the new generations of the information and telecommunication systems. Government of Belarus is paying a strong attention to the micro/nano- development and it has approved the state competitive programme of scientific research “Electronics” and “Photonics” for 2006-2010. Тhe program mainly aims in the development of opto-, micro-, nanoelectronics, electronics of microwave range, micro-sensors, new generation information-measuring systems, competitive radio electronic devices and inspection technology, radioelectronic devices and control systems development for the next generation of information and telecommunication systems.

Nanotechnologies are included into the list of the critical technologies of the Belarus. Several leading research centers of the National Academy of Science of Belarus are oriented towards research in nanotechnologies in the framework of the state scientific-engineering programmes New Materials and Technologies, Microelectronics.

A particular challenge that joint EU-Belarus projects should address is the need to promote commercialization and develop new nanoelectronics technologies.

Distinguished R&D institutions:

- Belarusian State University

- Stepanov Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

Ukraine has critical mass of scientific and technological developments in microelectronics area especially in the fields of:

-   Nanoelectronics

-   Design of semiconductor components

-   Design platforms, interfaces, methods and tools
Microelectronics is the one of most developed scientific and technology areas in Ukraine because it was developing as a part of the relevant field of the former Soviet science.
Today, a significant number of organisations and institutions develop microelectronic applications. The world-recognized Ukrainian ICT organisations and Institutes working in this area:

-   Lviv Polytechnic National University,

-   Faculty of Microelectronics - National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”

-   V. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine
